Febrier: a film by Amanda Kerley

Hello. Are you here because you came by a DVD? Perhaps I posted it to you, left it on your seat or you picked it up from the magazine rack. However it is you found yourself here, thank you; it was nice of you to have followed the trail. If you haven’t seen Febrier, you might want to before reading on. I tell you how you can see it here.

This website has come from a desire to distribute my latest movie in a manner which I hope will facilitate the kind of interaction I most value with an audience: conversation. Although I have reservations about the capabilities of the Internet to function as host to our tête(s)-à-tête(s), I’m giving it a go as a little experiment; one I hope you will join me in.

So, I’ve structured this site into a series of “scene setting” pages (numbered sequentially) where I provide some context for the film. After these pages there are some more specific pages where I ask you to contribute your ideas and opinions to discussions on some of the issues I either explore through the film or I believe the film itself provokes.

If you read on, some of the things you will come upon include: an attempt to identify a practice of ephemeral filmmaking, a discussion surrounding bad sex aesthetics and a discussion on issues of presentation and distribution for independent cinema. I’m also curious about the recent influx of screen works about foreigners in Paris. Three of these are by women based in Melbourne and each present their content, and are seeking their audiences, in different ways.

Whether or not you want to contribute to these discussion I invite you to simply tell me about your personal interactions with/response to the DVD. You can do this here, or you can drop me an email:
